I just spent about half an hour trying to download the Adobe Flash CS4 Trial from adobe.com. Obviously downloading a file shouldn’t be big thing but now it turned out to be a bit trickier.

Adobe uses Akamai download manager for some downloads and that’s where my trouble started. Everything goes as it is supposed to until the Akamai download manager popup opens. Then… nothing happens. The download doesn’t start. I tried the download first with FF3, then with IE7 and finally with opera. The result was always the same. The download didn’t start. After a little struggle I noticed that the download managers url included urls to both files needed for the installation:

http://trials.adobe.com/dlm.html?files=http://trials.adobe.com/Applications/FlashPro/CS4/Win/ADBEFLPRCS4Win_LS1.exe|http://trials.adobe.com/Applications/FlashPro/CS4/Win/ADBEFLPRCS4Win_LS1.7z

So obviously that is supposed to tell Akamai download manager which files to download except it doesn’t work :) . Not for me anyway. So if you are experiencing same problems just use the direct download links below.

Direct download link to the .7z file
Direct download link to the .exe file

And here is the download link for Mac (thanks to Ukyo):
Direct download link for Mac

Thanks a lot, I was getting frustrated and this way, a direct download, is how it should be if Adobe wants to avoid ticking off their client-base! Adobe is ridiculous about trying to prevent piracy, as if the distribution a trial they’re offering has any correlation to piracy of full software.

Uhh, I have downloaded em both but I dunno what to do :S

    Help?

  3. Timo VirtanenNo Gravatar on February 10th, 2009 7:42 PM

    From Adobe.com:
Note: This download contains two files: ‘.exe’ and ‘.7z’. Please allow the .7z file to download completely (100%) before launching the installer. When the .7z file has downloaded completely, double-click the ‘.exe’ file in the Download Manager window to begin installing your trial.

Ooh thanks a bunches. I had the same problem except that when using IE to download Akamai crashed instantly.

Pro-tip of the day! Thanks man. Did all the “I wonder if it works with this browser” tricks as well, no good. Then luckily this page popped up for me. Direct links worked like a charm.

Hey, Blastoiselaughs there is a correlation between full trail version and piracy. You just have to figure it out…c”,?

    Sure.

Here are system requirements for Windows

Microsoft® Windows® XP with Service Pack 2 (Service Pack 3 recommended) or Windows Vista® Home Premium, Business, Ultimate, or Enterprise with Service Pack 1 (certified for 32-bit Windows XP and Windows Vista)

System requirements for ADOBE FLASH CS4 PROFESSIONAL

Hi, I have decided to learn how to create flash vids… Could someone please tell me how big is the download is so that I know what the free download will cost (cost for gap).
    Thanx

  13. Timo VirtanenNo Gravatar on March 5th, 2009 10:34 AM

The download (Win) is about 900Mb

  14. GronoNo Gravatar on March 6th, 2009 7:34 PM

Thanks, the adobe download manager still has a ‘The file is corrupt’ message.
    Also

“as if the distribution a trial they’re offering has any correlation to piracy of full software.”

The trial is essentially the full software but with a 30 day limit and some of the content blocked off. So pirates just crack the trial and they have the full version.

uhh … any ideas for mac users ?

and does anyone know why adobe uses this totally screwed downloader ? this is not the first time I am having trouble with this stupid downloader. I mean, what do they gain by causing people so much trouble ???

  16. Timo VirtanenNo Gravatar on March 8th, 2009 12:44 PM

I just downloaded Adobe Acrobat trial from adobe.com and it uses the same method (Akamai download manager) for the download process. It seems to work really well. I had no trouble with it. So I tried the Flash download again to see if it works there too. But no. It is the same. I am confused.

Adobe Download Help states the following:
    —————————————–
Why is Adobe using the Akamai DLM?

Adobe wants to enhance the experience for customers that purchase a download from the Adobe Store and downloading larger product trials by providing the ability to resume large downloads.
    —————————————–

Ok. But how does it “enhance the experience” if it is not working? Why not just provide a direct download link for users who dont’t want to use Akamai DLM. There are already tons of download managers that enable you to resume the download if it for some reaseon is interrupted.

I don’t use download managers but if I did, I would surely wish to use it for the download cause I would most likely already be comfortable with using it.

..it Akamai DLM does work, just not for Flash. Maybe it’s something to do with the popularity of the software..which in no excuse, since they should just pop a message up saying “Too late Dumbo” or something professional like that.

I don’t know this website, and don’t care. I found this page when looking to download flash trial for Mac. After experimenting with the above links, I found the Mac link for anyone that needs it. Perhaps the webmaster could add it to the above. ADOBE is a shit company, and the day they purchased Macromedia was a major heart ache for everyone in web design. They can’t even design a good website for their own company!

  35. PersonNo Gravatar on December 6th, 2009 9:42 PM

    How Akamai prevents piracy:
    1. The person goes to the download site
    2. The person attempts to download the trial
    3. After 3 days, the person becomes so annoyed that he and/or she decides it’s not worth it and gives up.

  36. TimelimitNo Gravatar on December 12th, 2009 2:43 PM

all I get when I try is “Sign up and resume trial download”…though it worked fine before… but the file was somehow corrupt, so I had to re-download. (which I tried now, a few months later XD)

  37. pimNo Gravatar on December 25th, 2009 1:14 PM

Adobe: you are morons! On my non-administrator account on Mac OSX I get “Failed to install client: Disk I/O failure. Aborting installation”. WTF? When I try this on an administrator account, the installer runs, but I end up with nothing. This is really great work Adobe, this is how it’s done circa 2010!!! Do I really have to go to a torrent site now, to get a *trial* version of your software?

If any of you have problems with the direct links, try installing the akamai DLM and running the service.

When i opened the links, the adobe page kept pestering me to use the DLM to resume a download, but after installing the DLM and logging in, both windows links (.7z and .exe) to flash cs4 work.

I cannot understand how a company like adobe could use such a crappy download manager. I tried it on 3 different pcs in my company, with 3 different browsers (FF, IE6, IE8), but nothing works. This actually encourages piracy, because it’s more effort to get the damn DM to work, than to download it on bittorrent, rapidshare, etc..

I have a mac G5 with PPC processors NOT Intel. The more modern apps need Intel on macs but I do have Adobe some CS4, Photoshop, bridge, device central and extension manager. I am currently downloading FlashPro using link supplied by Ukyo which is currently connected and downloading so thanks for that.
Anyone know the direct links for other parts of the CS4 for trial, as want to evaluate before purchasing and have got very frustrated like others here with Adobe downloads.

Sadly the mac download for Flashpro does not install so am sure Adobe have disabled it there end. It is very frustrating they will not old computer users try CS4 before buying. Would we not all like to afford a mod high spec computer apple or pc that can cope with CS5 or Final Cut 3?
